Watch This Space

The ASFA is actively exploring all the different avenues available to ensure that our already shortened 2020 season is able to continue as soon as possible and it is our intention to try and schedule as many league fixtures as possible into the time period available to us once the government’s restrictions on community sport have been removed.

We are equally keen and committed to try and ensure that there is an ASFA Finals Day for us all to enjoy sometime in October, featuring games involving the winners of the twelve semi-finals currently scheduled to take place in September.

We thank those who have offered to play some fixtures on a Saturday or under floodlights during the week but also appreciate and accept that this is not a feasible option for some of our teams.

Updates will be posted on this site and on our Facebook page. Until then, stay safe, stay healthy, stay strong!

All three Premiership fixtures were won by the away teams, with the host scoring 3 times and the guests scoring 14 times. 2019 Champions HNK were beaten 6-0 by 2019 Runners-up AFC Bohemian Celtics, while Inter came out on top of their local derby fixture against Indy with a 3-2 away win.

All Championship fixtures were won by the home teams with the hosts scoring 13 times and the guests only scoring 3 times. Albany Green Machine scored six of those against AUT FC, whilst Western Wanderers scored five against FC Khukuri.

All three Masters 1 fixtures were won by the away team, each of whom scored 3 goals.

The Match of the day was played out on Rosedale Park 2, between Old Fellas and West Auckland United. Congratulations to everyone associated with West Auckland United, the winners of the first-ever ASFA Society Plate fixture. They won the silverware following a hard-earned 3-1 away win over Old Fellas, the 2019 Master league 1 winners. The visitors were 2-0 up at half time, having been made to play into a strong wind by their hosts. They added a third directly from a corner midway through the second half, whilst Old Fellas scored a consolation goal in injury time, having had another goal (harshly) ruled out for a foul on the West Auckland goalkeeper only moments earlier. West Auckland’s chosen charity was Starship Hospital and they were quick to dedicate the win to their former Secretary Elvin Rams, who is recovering from three weeks spent in a coma. Get well soon Elvin!

Week 2 – Postponed!

All games were postponed following the closure of all grounds.

I know that this came as a major disappointment to many of our players, but the decision was made by those who want to ensure that we have football fields fit to play on in July, August and September.

Whilst Auckland needs several weeks of intense rain to help fill up those dams, let’s hope that things brighten up in time for us to play games this weekend.

Week three’s fixtures will be added this evening!

COVID 19 Update: April 9th, 2020

New Zealand Football and the seven Federations have announced that the community football postponement has been extended until at least Queen’s Birthday Weekend (Saturday 30 May 2020), due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All team training should be suspended until 16 May, or two weeks prior to the start of the season.

With the country still in Alert Level 4, the extended postponement gives the football community new guidance on when NZF aims to resume play, providing it’s safe to do so.

•    Community football, including junior, youth, senior and social competitions – start postponed until at least 30 May

•    Community futsal including junior, youth, senior and social competitions – start postponed until at least 30 May

•    National Futsal Tournaments scheduled in June and July have been cancelled – including the Youth Futsal Championships. All other national tournaments remain under review

•    In-person workshops and courses, including coaching and refereeing – all postponed until at least 30 May (in some cases, an online alternative will be made available so please check with your course provider)

All football clubs are still taking registrations for the 2020 season.

NZF is delighted with the football community’s responsible attitude under lockdown, and is sharing resources to help players stay fit, work on their skills and keep entertained on our website and social media.

COVID 19 Update: 16th March, 2020

The following statement was released by New Zealand Football on Monday 16th.

Our community’s health comes first in football decisions

Participants, players, coaches, officials, volunteers and their families’ health is the main priority for all football decisions during the rapidly developing COVID-19 situation.

It’s vital the football community adheres to measures regarding travel and self-isolation put in place by the New Zealand Government and doesn’t contribute to any further spread of COVD-19. Please help ensure your club and organisation’s members do the same.

We are monitoring this fast-developing situation closely and will keep you updated. We encourage everyone to follow official advice around handwashing and other hygiene measures.

We have published information on hygiene for footballers on nzfootball.co.nz/covid19, which will be updated as the situation changes.

Community football
We expect advice from the NZ Government on mass gatherings this week and will update you immediately on the impact. Until then, community-level football should proceed, based on current government advice.

Football tournament organisers should ensure their cancellation policies and contingency plans are in place and clearly communicated to participants prior to the event. Individual organisations, clubs and players can elect not to participate in any activity at their personal discretion

Advice for clubs and organisations
If anyone associated with your club or organisation is feeling unwell, they should immediately self-isolate, refrain from all football activities straight away and seek medical advice by calling Healthline on 0800 611 116

Consider whether tournaments or events that may attract large crowds can be delayed or cancelled. Place signs around your club reminding your members about the risks posed by COVID-19 and encouraging basic hygiene.

Place hand sanitizers around changing and club rooms, and encourage people to use them. Ensure player facilities are maintained and cleaned to a high standard with appropriate cleaning agents, and consider cleaning them more regularly.

Work with other clubs that share facilities, if appropriate, to ensure a consistent approach

Where to get information
We will continue to take advice from the NZ Government and Ministry of Health. NZ Government information hub, including health and travel advice. Current advice for public events and mass gatherings, from the Ministry of Health
