New Zealand Football’s most prestigious domestic cup competition kicks off this week, and the ASFA will be proudly represented by seven sides in the preliminary round, five from our Premiership and two from the Championship.
Kiwi True Blues’ 2017 Chatham Cup adventure got them some national coverage last year and they will be hoping for more of the same after their ANZAC Day home fixture against Tauranga-based Otumoetai FC (2pm, Michaels Ave Reserve 3).
Bohemian Celtics and Auckland Wanderers were also rewarded with home fixtures against Whangarei-based Onerahi FC (ANZAC Day, 3.30pm, Bill McKinlay Park) and Te Awamutu FC (ANZAC Day, 2pm, Michaels Ave Reserve 2)
Our 2017 ASFA Double winners, Internationale, travel down the road to the home of Ranui Swanson (ANZAC Day, 2pm, Starling Park), whilst Auckland Volcanoes have an away game on the North Shore this Saturday against the Navy (April 28th, 1pm, Naval Sports Complex).
Championship-leaders, HNK Auckland, have the furthest to travel next Saturday, having been drawn away against Edgecumbe, Bay of Plenty, Division 1 team Plains Rangers (April 28th, 2pm, Awakeri Sports Field). Prior to that, the University of Auckland FC host West Auckland FC (ANZAC Day, 2pm, Cox’s Bay Reserve).
